Adopt-A-Classroom Library Program

Investing in early literacy.

TalentFirst’s Adopt-a-Classroom Library Program supports new K–3 teachers in high-need schools where third-grade reading proficiency is below the state average. By funding high-quality classroom libraries and providing expert literacy coaching, this initiative helps ensure more students become confident, proficient readers by the end of third grade—a critical milestone for long-term academic and workforce success.

This program reflects TalentFirst CEO members’ commitment to advancing early literacy as the foundation of Michigan’s talent pipeline.

Program with purpose.

New teachers often enter classrooms with limited resources to build libraries that spark curiosity and strengthen early literacy. This program helps close that gap.

The Adopt-a-Classroom Library Program provides:

  • Funding to build or enhance a strong, diverse classroom library

  • Coaching and support to help teachers apply evidence-based Science of Reading strategies

  • Tools that foster a love of reading and expand access to high-quality books for young learners

Driving impact.

The Adopt-a-Classroom Library Program advances TalentFirst’s mission by:

  • Increasing student access to diverse, engaging, developmentally appropriate books

  • Supporting early-career teachers with tools and coaching that strengthen literacy instruction

  • Promoting collaboration across K–12, ISDs, business leaders, and community partners

  • Advancing educational equity and strengthening Michigan’s future workforce

Stronger readers today become stronger learners—and stronger contributors to Michigan’s talent pipeline tomorrow.
